On 15 October 1924, Le Corbusier took up residence at 35, rue de Sèvres, Paris, on the first floor of the wing of a convent occupied by the Jesuits. The architect needed a new space to complete his Esprit Nouveau pavilion for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes.

The architect stayed for 40 years, until his death in 1965. More than 160 architects from some twenty countries, including Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret, Iannis Xenakis, Josep Lluis Sert, André Wogenscky, Roger Aujame, José Oubrerie and Junzo Sakakura, will be on show at 35S.

Drawing on a wealth of previously unpublished images and testimonials from former employees, this book retraces in detail the life of this emblematic place, from its birth to its destruction. With the help of period photographs, it recreates Le Corbusier's many refurbishments and offers a portrait of a man inhabited by his art - architecture, like painting - and as demanding as he was generous with those closest to him.
