With one hundred and thirty-seven clocks from the 18th and 19th centuries, the Parnassia Collection is one of the largest private collections of figurative clocks in the world. Produced in few copies, or even only one, and executed between 1790 and 1820, the models were chosen for their aesthetics, the quality of their cases and their perfect condition.
Richly illustrated, this magnificent work by Jean-Dominique Augarde, art historian and renowned specialist in clocks and bronzework, is divided into two volumes: the first is devoted to the so-called "classical" clocks, illustrating the sculptural art of Parisian bronzeworkers at its peak. The second volume, with more than 40 models, is the first reference work on "black" clocks.
