Exhibition at the Centre culturel de rencontre-Abbaye de Saint-Riquier-Baie de Somme, 24 June-24 September 2012
Usually studied for its contribution to lyrical abstraction or for its Christian aspect, the work of Alfred Manessier is approached in this exhibition catalogue from a political angle. Concerned by the events of his time, the painter denounced the violence of dictatorships. This analysis underlines the tension in his painting, between a tragic vision of the world and the exaltation of nature.
