Exhibition Couvent Sainte-Marie de La Tourette, Eveux, 24 September - 22 December 2019
Impressed by Le Corbusier's architecture, Anselm Kiefer (1945-) spent three weeks at the Convent of La Tourette in 1966, sharing the life of the friars. Kiefer said that he experienced the 'spirituality of concrete' there - a material that would later become so important in his work. This catalogue of the exhibition, organised 52 years after Kiefer's stay, presents a selection of works of great diversity: monumental sculptures, showcases, paintings, artists' books, etc.
It also includes a portfolio of Anselm Kiefer's personal and previously unpublished photographs taken at La Tourette, providing his view of Le Corbusier's architecture, as well as a text written by the artist in 1946 and published here for the first time.
