Exhibition at the Musée Rodin, Paris, 17 October 2023 - 3 March 2024

The artist Antony Gormley (1950-) is widely recognised for his sculptures, installations and public artworks that explore the relationship between the human body and space.

By re-establishing the dialogue between the British sculptor and Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), this exhibition catalogue examines the work of two of the best-known and most respected sculptors of their respective eras. This encounter is brought to life through numerous photographs of site-specific installations of Gormley's work in and around the Musée Rodin in Paris, previously unpublished drawings, workbooks and models from the artist's studio, as well as sculptures, models and drawings by Rodin himself.

The major installation in the exhibition, Critical mass (1995-), composed of sixty human-sized sculptures that identify twelve fundamental positions of the human body, is discussed at length. The book includes new studies and an in-depth conversation with Gormley, and documents the lasting impact Rodin's work has on the British artist.
