Revised and expanded edition
A world-renowned company founded in Helsinki in 1935 by Alvar (1898-1976) and Aino (1894-1949) Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl, Artek created many of the founding products and is best known for producing Alvar Aalto's bentwood furniture.
This richly illustrated book is based on a wide range of recently discovered archival documents that shed new light on the history of Artek. It highlights the close working relationship between Alvar and Aino Aalto, and their key role in the creation and international development of the company.
This second edition places greater emphasis on the more than 500 drawings and photographs, some of which are previously unpublished. The addition of a timeline that traces the parallel history of Artek and the Aalto office provides an unprecedented understanding of the many projects they created together.
