In 1923, at a time when the first modernist lighting fixtures were appearing in France, Jean Perzel (1892-1986), a key figure in this new creative wave and a follower of the principles of the Deutsche Werkbund and Bauhaus, set about rigorously creating a range of demanding designs. The master glassmaker's creations - floor lamps, lamps, ceiling lights and pendant lights - all made a major contribution to the creation of the Art Deco style.

This book devoted to the Ateliers Jean Perzel celebrates the centenary of a company that has never ceased to renew its designs, while maintaining the highest standards of manufacturing quality. It includes the most emblematic models created by the company.

Part of the book is devoted to Perzel's major concerns. With his architectural conception of light, the master glassmaker was always primarily concerned with the effectiveness of light, seeking to respect both visual comfort and the physiology of the eye. As a result, all his creations are accompanied by plans showing the zones of light intensity defined by a particular lamp or suspension.
