Exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris, 20 October 2021 - 7 March 2022
Through numerous writings and lectures, Georg Baselitz (1938-) renewed throughout his career the writing of manifestos in art, offranting precious testimonies on his inspirations, and thus participating in the creation of his own myth.
This catalogue of the first Parisian retrospective devoted to the artist brings together chronologically the artist's most significant works: from the first paintings and the Pandemonium manifesto in the early 1960s to the Heroes series, fractured compositions with inverted motifs from 1969 onwards, via successive sets of works in which the artist masterfully experiments with new painting techniques. Masterpieces from the last six years also have a special place in the exhibition.
