Exhibition at the Louvre Abu-Dhabi, 16 November 2023 - 24 March 2024
In the early decades of the 20th century, Louis and Jacques Cartier found new sources of inspiration at the major exhibitions of Islamic art held in Paris in 1903 and 1910. By creating masterpieces of emeralds and sapphires, the jewellery house paid tribute to the arts of Islam.
Through more than 400 works, including jewellery and precious objects, masterpieces of Islamic art, drawings, textiles and photographs, this exhibition catalogue examines the influences of Islamic art on the jewellery house's productions from the early 20th century to the present day. Manuscripts, arabesques, vases, tunics and mosaics form a constellation of motifs that underline the importance of dialogue between cultures as an inexhaustible source of creation.
