Exhibition at the Musée de l'Orangerie, Paris, 15 September 2021 - 10 January 2022
This catalogue brings together the singular universes of Chaïm Soutine (1893-1943), a painter of the School of Paris of Russian origin (now Belarus), and Willem de Kooning (1904-1997), an American abstract expressionist of Dutch origin, through some fifty works articulated around essential themes: the tension between the figure and the formlessness, the painting of the "flesh", and the "gestural" pictorial practice of both artists.
The book also explores the impact of Soutine's painting on the American painter's pictorial vision.
