Exhibition at Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, New York, 10 September - 30 October 2021
This exhibition catalogue examines the reinvention of ceramic sculpture by a new generation of artists. A medium that has often been considered more craft than art is now an exciting platform for formal and conceptual innovation, adding a new dimension to Pop Art.
Alongside current concerns with painting, many of the artists featured in this book also explore issues of gender, race and identity, using clay in new ways to address social issues.
In this book, sections devoted to each of the forty artists featured include a profile of their ceramic practice, images of their work and a biography. The introduction describes the artists' interconnected community, while two longer essays place the works, mostly created in the last five years, in the context of the history of Pop Art and ceramics.
