Exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, London, 2 November 2023 - 21 January 2024
This book completes the catalogue of the exhibition David Hockney: drawing from life, which was interrupted in 2020 and presented again in 2023. It illustrates some forty works in acrylic on canvas painted by David Hockney (1937-) in his studio in Normandy between 2020 and 2022 and added to the works included in the 2020 exhibition. The paintings feature his friends and visitors, including JP, his partner, the singer Harry Styles, and the artist himself. These works underline the continuing importance of portraiture in the British artist's practice and reflect his belief that "drawings and paintings [...] are much better than photographs at giving you an idea of the person".
