The painter André Derain (1880-1954) was closely linked to the intellectual and artistic life of his time. The influence he exerted is little known today, even though he had a lasting influence on the destiny of contemporary painting and poetry.
Based on unpublished sources and richly illustrated, this book retraces the 'melancholy giant's' encounters with Vlaminck, Matisse and Picasso, and brings to life the passionate relationships he forged with Apollinaire, Breton, Satie, Balthus and Giacometti.
