Exhibition at the Galerie Mennour, Paris, 17 October - 3 December 2023
Admired during his lifetime, Eugène Carrière (1849-1906) was forgotten after his death, despite his many works in the collections of the most prestigious museums in France and abroad. Tracing a singular path, at odds with the dominant movements of his time, Carrière influenced the greatest artists of modernity, such as Picasso, Giacometti and Moore, and his work today finds echoes in the work of contemporary artists.
This exhibition catalogue offers an overview of the painter's singular and influential work, enabling us to rediscover his oeuvre through a collection of little-known and even previously unpublished paintings alongside his great masterpieces. The book offers an overview covering more than twenty-five years of prolific work that was nonetheless limited to a few favourite subjects: scenes of everyday life with his wife and children, his friendships, and landscapes.
