After a melt-marked 19th century, a genuine revival of ironwork took place in France during the first half of the 20th century, in particular around 1925, 1931 and 1937 International Exhibitions.
This book recounts the career of around thirty iron craftsmen, including Brandt, Subes, Poillerat and Prouvé. Some of them remained attached to ironwork classical methods, while others began from the 1920s to use autogenous welding. Through more than a thousand pictures, the book presents their architecture ironworks for banks, department stores, liners, post offices, churches and buildings, most of them in France, but also in Europe. The volume also mentions the more delicate work of these artists on furniture, lights, vases, clocks, jewels, paper knives, and even everyday objects.
