New edition

Known for his innovative and provocative work, Robert Mapplethorpe (1946-1989) is one of the most important artists of the twentieth century. He studied painting, drawing and sculpture in Brooklyn in the 1960s and began taking photographs when he acquired a Polaroid camera in 1970. From 1973 until his death in 1989, Mapplethorpe explored the flower using a range of photographic processes - from Polaroids to dye-transfer colour works. In carefully crafted compositions, he captured roses, orchids, snapdragons, daisies, tulips and other species, both common and rare, transforming the perception of a classic and familiar subject.

This book brings together, through high-quality reproductions, the complete collection of floral photographs by the American photographer, and includes a foreword by Dimitri Levas, one of Mapplethorpe's closest friends.
