OUT-OF-PRINT BOOK
Exhibition at Château de Chamerolles, Chilleurs-aux-Bois, 2010
Foujita graduated in painting from the Beaux-Arts in Tokyo in 1910. One hundred years later, Sylvie Buisson, an international expert on Foujita, recounts in this exhibition catalogue why and how the artist had the idea of combining his native Japanese culture with that of the masters of the West to create his own unique, inimitable style in Paris, so different from the others.
In Montparnasse, Foujita met Picasso, Modigliani, Vlaminck, Utrillo, Marie Laurencin, Derain, Dufy, Pascin, Kisling, Soutine, Segonzac, Max Jacob, Lhote, Apollinaire, Jean Cocteau, Cendrars... Through 360 reproductions, works and documents (many of them unpublished), this book approaches the life of Foujita from the angle of his famous friendships.
