A leading artist, François Girardon, who died on the same day as the king, was Louis XIV's greatest sculptor. Friend of Mignard and Le Brun, member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in 1657, restorer of antique works but also a collector, the sculptor knew a brilliant official career. He participated to all the great royal works, including the Galerie d'Apollon in the Louvre and Versailles.
Enriched by more than 800 illustrations, this monograph recounts the prolific career of Girardon and shows the influence he had on the sculpture and artists of his time.
