Exhibition at the Museo del Novecento and at Palazzo Morando, Milan, 5 April - 3 Septembre 2023
Liberty is renowned worldwide for its fabrics, particularly its floral designs, but also has a long history of developing geometric patterns. Many of these were inspired by the avant-garde art of the early 20th century, including the Italian Futurists - notably Giacomo Balla and Umberto Boccioni - and their English contemporaries, the Vorticists, including Christopher Nevinson and Edward Wadsworth.
To mark Liberty's 150th anniversary, Federico Forquet, a renowned couturier and interior designer, has created a new range of fabrics, the FuturLiberty collection, which brings Liberty's creative legacy into our time.
This book explores the futuristic and vorticist art behind the new designs and the history of Liberty's avant-garde designs. It highlights the process by which the FuturLiberty collection came into being, revealing how art can make design contemporary, relevant and engaging.
