Hubert de Givenchy founded the haute couture house that bears his name in 1952, and quickly established himself as the couturier of natural elegance, embodied in particular by his muse and close friend, Audrey Hepburn. After his retirement in 1995, some of the biggest names in fashion took over as artistic directors: visionaries John Galliano and Alexander McQueen were succeeded by Julien Macdonald, Riccardo Tisci and Clare Waight Keller. Appointed in 2020, Matthew M. Williams ushers Givenchy into a resolutely contemporary new decade, while celebrating more than 70 years of heritage.
This book analyses 179 haute couture and ready-to-wear collections in more than 1,200 photographs, tracing the evolution of a sophisticated and boldly creative luxury house in an unprecedented way.
