During his fifty-year career, Gus Bofa (1883-1968) drew for the press, realized advertising posters, wrote articles and tales, was drama and literature reviewer, created an art Salon, and illustrated more than fifty books. After having put into images the "social fantastique" of Pierre Mac Orlan and given his personal, sometimes caustic, vision of the classics, he associated his own texts and drawings in a series of often introspective, always disillusioned, albums. Respected by his contemporaries for his talent and his intransigence, Gus Bofa, who influenced a great number of comic authors, is nevertheless forgotten by the public.
This biography, the first devoted to him, tries to solve the mystery of the man and artist, by depicting him in his life, work and time.
