Raised in Sweden, Ingrid Donat (1957-) moved to Paris in 1975, where she met the sculptor Sylva Bernt, a companion of André Arbus, who introduced her to sculpture and the decorative arts, as well as personalities such as Diego Giacometti, Sam Szafran and César, who encouraged her to create her own works.

After her first papier-mâché sculptures, Ingrid Donat turned to furniture design. Her complex vocabulary is enriched by her embrace of African and Creole decorative repertoires. Her often parchment-like pieces in bronze, aluminium or wood - tables, consoles, bookcases, wall panels, chairs and light fittings - are inlaid with tactile patterns, spheres or scarification marks that give this highly precise work a unique texture and relief. Today, Ingrid Donat is highly regarded by leading international interior designers such as Peter Marino, who have incorporated her pieces into numerous interior designs for Dior, Cartier and others.

This book is the first complete monograph devoted to Ingrid Donat and her creative process, which has made her one of the most sought-after contemporary designers.
