Exhibition at Galerie Di Meo, Paris, 12 February - 3 April 2010
The practice of the painter Jean Degottex (1918-1988), a self-taught heir to Kandinsky, was described in the immediate post-war period as lyrical gestural abstraction. In the 1970s, the painter confused line and support, and in fact erased any concept of representation. The work is the canvas itself, not what it supports.
In this exhibition catalogue, the 15 works presented, essentially black and white monochromes produced between 1976 and 1978, are representative of the transfer technique used by the artist.
