In 1923, the nephews of the Alsatian painter Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) donated to the State a museum devoted to his work, based on the artist's studio collection.
This update of the first edition, published in 1990, includes a new introduction, richly illustrated, which places the work in the context of 19th century French painting. This is followed by a history of the museum and its collections, and a presentation of the life and work of Jean-Jacques Henner. The 522 illustrated entries, in addition to the technical data sheet, also mention other works that allow the studies, sketches and replicas of the works in the Salons to be titled and dated.
