The Canadian-born painter Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002), one of the major artists of abstract painting of the 20th century second half, abandoned very early the paintbrush for the palette knife. Although he constantly renewed his style during his prolific career, his oil-painting technique was always based on three elements: volume, colour, - the first one being as important as the second -, and degree of glossiness, realised by a juxtaposition of matte and shiny paints, creating thus areas that reflect light in different ways.
This book, third volume of the catalogue raisonné of Riopelle's work, is devoted to the years 1960-1965 and includes more than 270 paintings, 39 sculptures and 283 works on paper.
