Book signing at Librairie Lardanchet on Wednesday 8 June from 18:30 to 20:30
Exhibition at the Galerie Jacques Lacoste, Paris, 23 November 2020 - 31 January 2021
Published in the wake of the show which took place at the galerie Jacques Lacoste, this book sheds light on Jean Royère (1902-1981), a major figure in France 20th-century decorative arts. Indeed, some of his designs, such as the Liane lights or Ours Polaire armchair, have become icons in the history of furniture.
Through extensive texts, interviews, archival documents and images (from the Jean Royère archive purchased bu Jacques Lacoste, but also from the musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and the decorator's family archive), some 90 pieces are documented; each was displayed in the exhibition, which included some previously unknown pieces.
Jean Royère initiated a style emancipated from conventions. As such he remains a prominent reference for many contemporary designers and interior designers, while his work features in the most prestigious collections worldwide.
