Mechanical furniture appeared during the Antiquity, but reached picks of ingenuity in the 18th century, between 1750 and 1789. At the starting point of mechanical arts, clockmakers, gunsmiths and locksmiths created a multitude of complex and sometimes eccentric machines.
This book studies the story of these sober, pure, aesthetic pieces of furniture, often created in Mahogany wood. It presents a great number of unpublished pieces.
