With 3,500 pieces dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs' jewellery collection is unique among French national collections. Donated to the museum, worn or inherited, this jewellery is the testimony of passionate amateurs and of those who wanted to preserve marks of family attachment.
This richly illustrated book presents the masterpieces of the MAD's collection: from jewellery with religious subjects, common in the Middle Ages, to the most avant-garde contemporary creations, a wide variety of models, themes and techniques are included.
The greatest artists are represented: Sandoz, Vever, Falize, Boucheron, Lalique, Fouquet, Gaillard for the Art Nouveau period, Raymond Templier and Jean Després for the Art Deco period, Georges Braque, Jean Lurçat, Line Vautrin, Jean Schlumberger, Torun, Dinh Van, Jonemann, Claude Lalanne for the post-war period, as well as contemporary designers. The creations of the great jewellery houses, Cartier, Boucheron, Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpels, and more recently JAR, are also present.
