Exhibition at the Musée des beaux-arts de Bordeaux, 2013
This exhibition catalogue presents, for the first time, the works of Italian artists from the second half of the 19th century who worked for the famous Goupil Gallery in Paris. From Boldini to De Nittis, from Mancini to Pasini, from Corcos to Sorbi, this exhibition reveals the history of the art market, of taste and collecting, recounts the artistic, cultural and commercial exchanges between Italy, France and the United States, and offers a panorama of the extent to which Italian works of art were disseminated and appreciated thanks to new printing and reproduction techniques.
The works presented highlight the influence and scope of these Italian artists, partners in the success of a gallery which, through its pioneering spirit, exhibited, sold and, above all, developed the arts, and established and disseminated on an international scale a new taste for collecting, the effects of which would last well into the new century.
