Exhibition at the Galerie des Gobelins, Paris, 8 April - 27 July 2014
This exhibition catalogue is the first comprehensive study ever published about the tapestries from the royal Gobelins Manufactory (Paris) in the 18th century. It focuses on all the wall decorations produced at this time - forty different series created in one century, including pieces from the Old Testament by Antoine Coypel, the New Testament by Jean Jouvenet and Jean Restout, L'Histoire d'Esther by Jean-François de Troy, L'Ambassade turque by Charles Parrocel, Les Chasses de Louis XV by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, or Les Amours des dieux by François Boucher.
This book is divided in five parts: royal orders, great art-lover orders, commercial wall decorations, tapestry portraits and paintings, then tapestry furniture (seats and beds). It reproduces all these works in colour, often for the very first time.
