Exhibition at Galerie Laurentin, Brussels, 16 September - 5 November 2022
For more than twenty years, Lionel Sabatté (1975-) has been interested in the reuse of materials marked by the passing of time (dust, ash, coal, hair, nails, dead skin, tree stumps, etc.). The phenomena of oxidation and rust are at the heart of his experiments. These atypical and disturbing materials are sculpted, painted and drawn to become a hybrid bestiary of strange creatures, such as bees, phoenixes, lions, rhinoceroses, birds, etc., coming from a real or dream world.
In 2011, Lionel Sabatté is particularly noticed with the exhibition of a wolf pack made of dust in the evolution gallery of the Museum of Natural History in Paris.
This book is both a monograph and a catalogue of Lionel Sabatté's first solo exhibition in Belgium, demonstrating the way in which the artist's work proposes a global reflection on the place we occupy in our environment.
