Exhibition at the Petit Palais, Paris, 14 November 2019 - 23 February 2020
With more than five thousand works, frescoes or paintings, the output of Luca Giordano (1634-1705) is immense. A virtuoso of the brush, his ability to adapt earned him prestigious commissions in Naples and Florence, as well as in Spain, where he spent ten years at the court of Charles II. His work is abundantly present in French museums - whether in the Louvre, Ajaccio, Amiens, Brest, Chambéry, or Rouen - a country where he exerted a profound influence on 18th-century painters.
This book, which is both an exhibition catalogue and a monograph, paints the portrait of an exceptional man, indifferent to codes and rules, gifted in business, and essential to understanding the artistic landscape of 17th century Europe.
