For the first time, a publication approaches in a precise and detailed way the furniture production during the periods of French Consulate and Empire. In the two parts of this book, the author devotes himself to determine the general characteristics of this production, and also its inspirations, then he clearly establishes the list of its instigators and creators (Madame Récamier, Pauline Borghese, Empress Josephine, Prince Eugène, Percier et Fontaine, etc...) and of its cabinetmakers (Jacob-Desmalter, Thomire, Lignereux, Marcion, Lemarchand , etc...).
A great part of the book is then devoted to the systematic presentation of the different categories of furniture: chairs, chest of drawers, tables, bureaux, notably through an abundant iconography, renewed and sometimes unpublished. A complementary part details the common Empire furniture.
