Ceramist, glassmaker, furniture designer, Olivier Gagnère (1952-) began on the French design scene in the 80s. While working in Milan with Ettore Sottsass's Memphis group, he developed his fantasy, a great formal freedom and a kind of humour. In Japan, he became imbued with the traditional skill of porcelain craftsmen in the workshop of Arita, on Kyushu Island.
His first furniture pieces were conceived for Artelano and the Néotù gallery of Pierre Staudenmeyer. He collaborated with Galerie Maeght to create Murano-glass objects and with the Edition Limitée gallery to work on earthenware. The interior design of the Café Marly, at the Louvre, in 1994, brought him a great visibility which led to numerous collaborations, notably with Saint-Louis, Bernardaud, En Attendant les Barbares, etc.
This book is the first monograph devoted to Olivier Gagnère.
