The Musée du Louvre holds an exceptional collection of Settecento paintings, most of which were assembled in the second half of the 20th century.
After two volumes devoted to the 17th-century Italian paintings in the Louvre (1996, 2006), this work completes the publication of the catalogue raisonné of the Louvre's collection of Italian Baroque paintings. It takes into account, according to identical principles, the paintings of all the regional centres present in the collections (Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Lombardy, Naples, Rome and Venice), by artists born between 1655 and 1754. Each painting is the subject of a study that is as complete as possible, making it possible to draw up a balance sheet of knowledge on this magnificent ensemble. The book contains detailed notes on 187 paintings in the Louvre and 151 others outside the museum.
