Exhibition at the Musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris, 1 December 2022 - 13 March 2023
Born in Marseille, Pierre Dunoyer (1949-) began painting in 1976. His paintings were presented in 1978 in the three exhibitions of the JaNaPa group. During the 1980s and 1990s, his paintings were regularly shown in galleries in Europe and the United States. In 1991, Pierre Dunoyer presented 24 works dated 1989, of identical dimensions, at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume, which established him as one of the most original artists on the French scene.
This catalogue of the first major exhibition of Dunoyer's work in a French museum since the Jeu de Paume marks an unprecedented display of 14 large-format paintings produced between 1978 and 2022. Presented chronologically, these works cover all the phases of the painter's career and reveal a unique artistic path: the formalism of his early works, marked by large white backgrounds, is followed by a freer approach to the painted surface and a wider variety of tones.
