Exhibition at the Musée Malraux, Le Havre, 27 April - 29 September 2013
In the 19th century, the development of port cities fascinated artists. Basins, docks, sheds and cranes transformed the landscape. Camille Pissarro gave the port theme its full dimension with an important series of works painted over a period of twenty years in Rouen, Dieppe and Le Havre. He observed landscapes with changing atmospheres, worked with light, while bearing witness with an almost photographic rigour to a modernity in full effervescence.
This catalogue presents some forty works from major national and foreign collections. Paintings by Eugène Boudin and Maxime Maufra complete this collection.
