Since the publication in 1983 of the first book devoted to Pierre Chareau and the Maison de verre, the author Marc Vellay has continued his research in the archives relating to the history of his family and the Maison de verre, but also to the relationships woven between the sponsors, his grandparents Annie and Jean Dalsace, Pierre Chareau and his wife Dollie, but also Lurçat, Jeanne Bucher, Lipchitz, Darius and Madeleine Milhaud and so many other artists and writers - a constellation of friends driven by the same artistic passion and the same desire to be part of the modern world.
Over the course of the pages, texts, letters and photographs, mostly unpublished, featured in this book, an era takes shape, that of the inter-war period, when a most cultivated society flourished in Paris, until the unthinkable fracture of the 20th century, the Holocaust.
