Exhibition at Musée des Beaux-Arts, Montréal, 24 November 2020 - 21 March 2021
This exhibition catalogue explores Jean-Paul Riopelle's (1923-2020) interest in northern Canada and its artistic production. Focusing on the series he produced in the 1970s, the book focuses on a particularly dynamic period during which Jean-Paul Riopelle made several trips to these territories to fish, hunt, and immerse himself in nature.
This volume allows to contemplate lesser-known and unpublished works, and to follow the evolution of Riopelle's artistic career, which is closely linked to the North, the Boreal and Polar territories, and the cultures - material or not - of Canadian Indians; it presents a hundred works paintings, sculptures, engravings and mixed-media works.
