Exhibition at the Fondation Maeght, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, 1 July - 12 November 2023
A major figure in post-war abstract painting, the Canadian painter Jean-Paul Riopelle (1923-2002) created a multidisciplinary body of work, including many very large-format canvases. Throughout his career, the artist drew inspiration from his experiences of life and nature, which he examined in a unique way.
This catalogue of the monographic exhibition organised by the Fondation Maeght to mark the centenary of the birth of Joan Mitchell's companion brings together 180 works by the artist - abstract and figurative paintings, sculptures, ceramics, tapestries and engravings - brought together thanks to numerous exclusive loans and curated by Yseult Riopelle, the artist's daughter.
