Exhibition at the Galerie des Gobelins, Paris, 25 April - 17 September 2017
Inheritor of the French royal, imperial and republican Garde-Meuble, the Mobilier National keeps an exceptional collection of seats entrusted to it since Louis XIV's reign.
This book studies the history of seat, woodcarving and tapestry thanks to this unique heritage. It presents scientific papers which approach the question of the authenticity of heritage cultural assets and notes dedicated to the various aspects of seat history. It also deals with the different levels of intervention in seat creation and then presents a typology of seat in its historical and social context.
