Complete catalog raisonné of the 455 bronzes by Auguste Rodin in the collection of the Musée Rodin, Paris.
The catalog is preceded by four essays on themes that have not traditionally been addressed. The relationship between Rodin and the founders follows the introduction. The support of the Gerald B. Cantor Foundation, which owns 750 works by Rodin, including letters and engravings and drawings by the sculptor, was crucial to this project. Ruth Butler explores the close contact and mutual assistance between the Foundation and the Rodin Museum.
In an unusual approach to the study of Rodin, Regis Cusinberche examines the laws and jurisprudence governing bronze casts and the rights of the sculptor's estate. The book contains more than 1000 illustrations, many of which present unpublished works. The only other comparative catalog was published in 1976.
