Exhibition at the Galerie Kugel, Paris, 11 September - 8 November 2014
Fifty years ago was presented at the Galerie Jacques Kugel an exhibition devoted to Strasbourg silversmith. In tribute to their father, Alexis and Nicolas Kugel have decided to give particular pride to vermeil through some of the finest masterworks from the 16th to the 19th century.
This exhibition catalogue celebrates more than three centuries of artistic excellence in Strasbourg and is built in two chronological parts: the German influence during the Renaissance and the Baroque, then the French style in the 18th and 19th centuries, including Rococo and Neoclassicism. With more than hundred works, each of them scientifically studied, this book sheds light on the double influence under which Strasbourg goldsmiths developed, while covering most styles and forms.
