Versailles, one of the most famous and visited places in the world, is the place where exists one of the most prestigious collections of 17th and 18th centuries furniture. That book in two volumes is written by Daniel Meyer, former Chief Curator on charge of Versailles's furniture, and Pierre Arizzoli-Clementel, General Director of the public establishment of the museum and of the national domain of Versailles and le Trianon.
The first volume is devoted to the King and the Queen Marie-Antoinette's warehouse and presents 75 of the most beautiful pieces with their destination in the different rooms of the castle.
In the second volume are described 105 others pieces of furniture which belonged to the royal family, princes or other dignitaries of the court, divided in two categories: cabinetmaking furniture and frame furniture. Each part follows a chronological order to underline the evolution of the tastes during the 18th century. In several cases, pieces of furniture especially executed for the same person are put together.
