During the 1960s and 1970s, French - André Bruyère, Jean Nouvel, Claude Parent, Roland Simounet, etc. - and foreign - Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, Oscar Niemeyer... - architects created in France works worthy of interest. Modern architecture is questioned by a multiplicity of movements and trends, which appear and grow in the 1960s. Even if a characteristic 1960s-1970s style can't be talked about, the house remains, during this period, a laboratory for a new generation of architects.
The first part of this book tries and discerns influences, ruptures and themes of thought in architecture of French detached house. In the second part, around 30 villas, built between 1960 and 1979, are thoroughly analysed; they illustrated and go further into the themes tackled in the first part.
