Chinese artist Zeng Fanzhi (1964-) was inspired in his youth by the Chinese New Wave movement of 1985, which saw artists create a new language after the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s and 1970s. He closely followed and studied Western art and was particularly attracted to German expressionism and French romanticism.
