For centuries, watches have fascinated people for their technical precision, their unique design or their historical significance. Each of the hundred watches presented in this book is distinguished by one or more of these qualities. Organised chronologically and divided by century, the watches are presented on double-page spreads, accompanied by photographs and text.
The book presents examples of the earliest forms of watches, including an astonishing Elizabethan watch with an astrolabic dial, an early 17th-century watch set with a single emerald, and some of the first repeating and perpetual calendar watches. This was followed by the first lever watch, precision, enamel and automaton watches from the early 19th century, highly complex watches by Breguet and Patek Philippe, Sir Winston Churchill's yellow gold World Time Victory watch, a Rolex wristwatch made to commemorate Indian Republic Day, an Omega Speedmaster that was sent into space and a Roger Smith wristwatch completed in 2023.
