Exhibition at the Fondation de l'Hermitage, Lausanne, 24 June - 30 October 2022
Deeply attached to his native Occitania, French painter Achille Laugé (1861-1944) fascinates by his singular path within the neo-impressionist movement. Refined and simple at the same time, he took his immediate environment as his subject: the surroundings of his house in Cailhau, the flowers in his garden, the portraits of his relatives. With his very pure technique, characterised by the three primary colours juxtaposed in small dots or in a lattice, he appropriated the divisionist method in a very personal way.
This catalogue of the first retrospective devoted to Laugé brings together nearly eighty works and covers his entire career, highlighting the profound originality of this painter of the everyday, driven by an exceptional sensitivity.
