Recognised until the 1830s as a major artist, Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard (1780-1850) was unfairly overshadowed by his father, the famous Jean-Honoré.
A fashionable history painter and "troubadour" artist, Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard was a creator of eclectic talent. Precocious - he presented his first drawing at the Salon at the age of thirteen - he never ceased to explore successfully all fields: painting, drawing, engraving and sculpture. He provided numerous drawings for collections of engravings, models of forms and decorations for the Sèvres factory or for costumes for the Opera.
This monograph traces the life and work of Fragonard and includes a detailed catalogue of his works.
