Exhibition at the Musée des arts décoratifs, Paris, 23 October - 1 December 2013
In 1973 in New York and Paris, then in 1978 in Turin, the spectators of Coucou Bazar witnessed, against a background of discordant music, the evolution on stage of strange costumed characters, named Le Grand Malotru, Marie Tremblote or even Nini la Minaude, and surrounded by painted cut-outs. Photographs, texts and archive documents retrace in this book the history of this "animated tableau" conceived by Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) as a challenge to the conventions of theatre, dance and fine arts.
